This can be a bit tricky but google will give you a few good tutorials and you should be able to get a crossover cable from any local PC shop. The exact procedure I followed was this, using the Xbox 360 connected to the modem/router via an Ethernet cable - the cable in question provides reliable video streaming when we connect it to our laptop, so I'm confident that the cable's fine.

Go to the system which has the existing internet connection; Open Control Panel-Network and Sharing Center-Change Adapter's Setting; Go to the Network connection which has internet connectivity and right click-Properties; Go to Sharing; Check on both the check boxes and save by clicking ok
